Try a Treatment
It all begins with YOU! Are you in pain and looking for relief? Do you want to perform at your best? Are you tense or in need of relaxation? Do you suffer from migraines or have a high stress job? I can provide you with a range of treatment options to support your optimal movement goals.
DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
Deep tissue massage involves applying sustained pressure using slow, deep strokes to target the inner layers of your muscles and connective tissues. This helps to break up scar tissue that form following an injury and reduce tension in muscle and tissue. It may also promote faster healing by increasing blood flow and reducing inflammation. Deep tissue massage uses a number of methods. Clients often request this treatment for injury rehabilitation, joint mobilization, or treatment of specific muscle and joint problems. These methods tend to be very popular among athletes when treating sports-related issues. Others seek this type of massage for chronic pain. Deep tissue is not recommended on a game day or before a training session. Think of deep tissue massage as the therapist providing a workout to your muscles. It is very common to feel some soreness within the next 24-48 hours, also referred to as DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness). As you regularly integrate deep tissue massages into your treatment plan, your muscles will adapt and the DOMS will be less prevalent. I always recommend stretching and increasing fluid intake following a deep tissue massage to keep the muscles hydrated and aid in recovery.
TIP: If you have a low pain threshold or are looking for relief of tense muscles, Swedish massage is gentler and may be a better option
FASCIAL STRETCH THERAPY
Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is a pain-free, unique, complete and complementary system of table based assisted stretching, focusing on the fascia and joint capsule as the key elements.
Fascia is a system of connective tissue that connects and penetrates every soft tissue of your body. It is strong, fibrous and is a critical part of your body’s shock absorption system.
Fascial stretching is done on a table with bands to help secure the body. I will start by assessing the fascia to see which areas need the most attention and create a custom plan.
Benefits include : reduced pain, reduced risk of injury, reduce or eliminate tight muscles, reduce or eliminate stiff joints, improve circulation, improve posture, improved performance, better range of motion plus many others.
Best thing about FST? It’s suitable for people of all ages and is an ideal way to increase your range of motion. Athletes of any level can benefit from FST by increasing the mobility of the fascia to better strengthen the muscle.
Lets get stretching! We can always incorporate a massage/stretch combo treatment!
CUPPING THERAPY
Cupping Therapy increases blood circulation to the area where the cups are placed. This may relieve muscle tension, which can improve overall blood flow and promote call repair.
The process involves a therapist placing special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. The process uses negative pressure (suction) to lift the soft tissues of the body. This is not fire cupping. Generally patients request cupping for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage. After your session, the cups may leave bruise-like marks on your treated areas. The colour and pattern of the marks depend on the level of stagnation in the area, and can range from a bright red to a dark purple, usually lasting 3 days to a week. Once you understand what these marks are and feel the results, you will likely return for more sessions!
Cupping can be incorporated into any massage treatment, taking the last 10-20 minutes to apply the cups and have you leaving looser and ready to take on the day !
Still not sure? We can always try a cup or two during a treatment to see if this is for you!
GENERAL SWEDISH MASSAGE
The “go to” massage, a foundation of all things massage!
Swedish massage is the most traditional form of Western massage, and for many in Canada, it's the image associated with massage. Swedish massage is a relatively gentle massage, focused on the body's superficial layers. It is provided to promote general relaxation and well-being and sometimes for relief for symptoms associated with health conditions. Swedish massage is known to promote circulation. There are five basic strokes: effleurage, petrissage, tapotement, friction, and vibration. Petrissage refers to kneading motions, effleurage to stroking – the massage technique one may associate most strongly with Swedish massage and with the accompanying relaxation. Some of the benefits associated with general Swedish massage are loosening tight muscles and stretching connective tissues, relieving cramps and muscle spasms and decreasing muscle fatigue, loosening joints and improving range of motion and helping to improve relaxation. General Swedish massage can be more than just a stress-buster. This type of massage is great for people of all ages, whether it’s chronic or acute pain, or simply looking to “loosen” up.
This type of massage is the perfect introductory massage for anyone who is uncertain of what massage is and the benefits that can be felt even after just one treatment!
HOT STONE MASSAGE
A hot stone massage is a type of massage therapy that is used to help you relax, ease tense muscles and damaged soft tissues throughout your body. During a hot stone massage you will experience smooth, flat, heated stones which are placed on specific parts of your body. The stones are usually made of basalt, a type of volcanic rock that retains heat. The massage therapist will hold heated stones as they massage your body using Swedish massage techniques such as long strokes, circular movements, vibration, tapping & kneading. Benefits that come from hot stone massage may include: helping to relieve muscle tension and pain, reduce stress and anxiety, promotes sleep, may help relieve symptoms of autoimmune diseases (such as fibromyalgia & rheumatoid arthritis), may help decrease cancer symptoms & may boost immunity.
A hot stone massage is more than just a relaxation massage, it has so many added benefits.
TIP: When requesting a hot stone massage, please ensure you book the hot stone massage treatment to ensure the stones are warmed and ready to go, they are not readily available, the stones take time to heat up.
SPORTS MASSAGE
The sports massage actually comes from the Swedish massage technique. Geared specifically to the athlete, this massage focuses on muscles that have seen a large degree of stress and use, often to the point of overuse. Normally, these are muscles that have seen repetitive and aggressive movement as a part of the overall sport or competition. Sports massage is now recognized as an essential component to an overall regimen of training and competition. This means an athlete can enhance pre-competition and reduce recovery period for a stronger and more intensive training session after competition. There are several key benefits to sports massage;
Motion and Flexibility ( it will relax the muscles for flexibility, improving performance),
Shortens Recovery Time ( massage increases blood flow and lymph fluid, both assisting in the body’s natural healing process, speeding waste removal and general health improvement),
Supply of Oxygen and Nutrients (massage increases blood flow into muscles is vital to creating new tissue and increased strength and stamina),
Reduces Pain (massage helps with pain from spasms and cramps, common with elite athletic training.)
Psychological Benefits: (There is great value in massage with sport and a quality massage has more than just physical benefits. The body is only as strong as the mind, so having a strong mind that is relaxed and focused is key)
TIP: A body in pain is a sign of overworked muscles and is not healthy. Let’s incorporate massage into your regular training schedule to get you to where you want to be.
