Hi there!

I’m Marissa Sorrell, a Registered Massage Therapist, working out of the Barrie Family Chiropractic clinic, located at 137 Collier St, Barrie, Ontario. As a proud graduate of the comprehensive massage therapy program at the Ontario College of Health and Technology, I am pleased to say that I am in good standing with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). Prior to completing my massage therapy program, I also graduated from Brock University where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology.

I have a genuine passion for pursuing this rewarding career and I look forward to working closely with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that best suits your unique individual needs. Regardless of your age or physical condition, I feel confident in my abilities to help you on your journey to feeling better.

Additionally, I am a Level 1 Certified Fascial Stretch Therapist (FST), cupping certified, and I can't wait to share the numerous benefits of these therapies with you. Drawing from my experience as a retired high-performance athlete, having competed in Wrestling at provincial, national, and international levels, as well as in competitive soccer, I bring with me a wealth of knowledge and a deep appreciation for the significant benefits that manual therapy can offer in everyday life.

Treatments

  • Sports massage is done with the client wearing loose clothing. This type of massage is a targeted approach that focuses on specific areas of the body that are in need of healing or relief. A sports massage focuses on enhancing circulation, increasing tissue elasticity and reducing muscle tension. Whether its pre, intra or post competition there’s benefits to having massage being apart of your sports training routine.

  • This is one of the most common types of massages. It is performed to energize the body and improve overall health. This type of massage involves actions like percussion, kneading, vibration, tapping and rolling.

  • Hot stones have many benefits when used with a massage treatment. Hot stones reduce anxiety, boost immunity, stress and anxiety and help relieve symptoms of autoimmune diseases.

  • No matter what trimester you’re in, we can develop a treatment plan to help you feel your best throughout your pregnancy journey. I treat in a side-lying position, making it comfortable for you and the baby. Massage during pregnancy can: improve maternal mood, decrease depression and anxiety ,decrease pain ,decrease obstetrical complications, and improve neonatal health and development.

  • Cupping Therapy is a modified version of the common practice of cupping, used in traditional Chinese medicine. Cupping Massage will help break down rigid tissue (muscle and fascia), and assists in the release of excess fluids and toxins. It also promotes blood flow and can helps improve range of motion. Cups can either remain static or used as a gliding tool.

  • Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is a pain-free, unique, complete and complementary system of table-based assisted stretching. It focuses on the fascia & joint capsule as the key elements in achieving optimal flexibility, strength, performance & pain relief.
